2025 Subaru Forester Overview

The Forester continues to be one of the most popular and critically acclaimed models in the Subaru lineup, and Subaru has recently announced that the 2025 model will usher in the all-new sixth Forester generation. Fans of the Forester have many questions, and this early 2025 Subaru Forester review is an opportunity for the Flatirons Subaru team to tell you what we know thus far. Six trim levels have been confirmed thus far and will soon be available to preorder through our Boulder Subaru dealership. The base trim is simply called the Forester and has an expanded standard equipment package. The Premium adds even more popular features without a significant bump in price. The Sport has a sportier appearance package and more tech. The Limited is a luxe trim with leather upholstery, and the top-spec Touring adds even more high-end amenities and technologies.

Exterior - Subaru Dealer serving Boulder CO

The exterior makeover gives the 2025 Subaru Forester a more modern and handsome appeal without detracting from the boxiness that’s such an iconic aspect of this nameplate. The wheelbase remains the same. The overall length has been expanded by 0.6 inches, so it measures almost 15.3 feet now, and the standard minimum ground clearance is the same at 8.7 inches. LED exterior lighting and aluminum wheels are standard. Wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches. Roof rails are standard beyond the base trim, and Subaru has introduced a foot-activated hands-free power liftgate as an option.

Interior - 2025 Subaru Forester in Boulder CO

The 2025 Subaru Forester is a five-passenger vehicle. Legroom, headroom and cargo space are the same as the previous generation. Headroom is 40.2 and 37.6 inches in the first and second row, respectively, and legroom is 43.3 and 39.4 inches. Dedicated cargo space is 26.9 cubic feet, and overall cargo space is more than 69 cubes. The cabin has been completely redesigned, and the changes here mirror the recent updates to the Impreza and Crosstrek. Dual-zone automatic climate control is now standard across the board, and the top trim gets front seated that is heated, cooled and power adjustable.

Subaru Forester Mechanical specs

Proximity keyless entry, push-button start and remote start will all be standard with the 2025 model through our Boulder Subaru dealership. Trailering equipment remains optional, but maximum towing capacity has not been confirmed. Previously, most models could tow up to 1,500, and you had to opt for the Wilderness to get up to 3,000 pounds. But a Wilderness model has not been confirmed yet. We expect that it will be available at some point, but it could be later in the model year.

Powertrain - Subaru Dealership in Boulder CO

A common question that we get at Flatirons Subaru is whether the powertrain is changing, and the answer is that while there are some changes, they aren’t dramatic. All models will have the 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that Subaru used for the Forester during the previous generation. Performance numbers are down are little to 180 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The practical difference is nonexistent, and the trade-off here is better fuel performance. All models have Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and SI-Drive.

Safety - 2025 Subaru Forester dealer

This is perhaps the area of our 2025 Subaru Forester review where we have the least amount of concrete information. We know that dual 6.5-inch infotainment touch screens are standard and that beyond the base trim those are upgraded to a singular 11.6-inch screen. We expect that all of the standard driver aids from the previous generation will remain standard: adaptive cruise control, frontal collision avoidance and lane departure mitigation. Expected options include a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, evasive steering assist and integrated navigation.
