Flatirons Subaru - Get to Know the 2020 Subaru Ascent in Boulder CO

Flatirons Subaru is your local Subaru dealer in Boulder, Colorado, and we are delighted to announce the arrival of the 2020 Subaru Ascent. We recently published our 2020 Subaru Ascent vs 2020 Toyota Highlander comparison in order to compare the Ascent side by side with a chief competitor. This blog post is a closer chance to take a look at an area we think Subaru excels: safety.

Crash Testing

Ratings by organizations like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are important to people considering the new Ascent and the 2020 Toyota Highlander. Both vehicles are very, but the Ascent stands apart. The Ascent was chosen by the IIHS as a Top Safety Pick+. The Highlander, on the other hand, is Top Safety Pick, and it missed out on the plus rating due to its headlights and the crash worthiness of its passenger side. The NHTSA gave the Ascent a five-star rating across the board. The Highlander received a five-star overall rating as well, but it earned just a four-star rating for the front due to crash worthiness of the driver side.

All-Wheel Drive

When it comes to vehicles like the Ascent and Highlander, all-wheel drive is more about better handling and responsiveness in the rain and snow rather than off-roading. This is an important aspect of safety, especially in Colorado. The Ascent is all-wheel drive standard. Toyota offers all-wheel drive as an option. You will need to pay more, and that can cut into the budget you have available for other extras.

Driver Assistance Suite

Here is an area where the Ascent and Highlander compare well and certainly stand out against their other competition. Subaru includes EyeSuite standard. Toyota includes Safety Sense 2.0 standard. Both of these suites are rather robust, but Subaru is unique in offering its pre-collision throttle management system, which can apply the brake incrementally as needed in the event there is the potential for a collision.
