The Forester continues to be among Subaru’s best-selling vehicles. It’s a compact crossover with a wagon-like design that gives a unique aesthetic and also results in more spacious seating and cargo than is usual at this price point and size. The current Forester isn’t even that old having been introduced for the 2019 model year, but Subaru wants to ensure that it remains ahead of the pack. The cabin has received a dramatic redesign as well.
The wheelbase remains the same, but the overall length has been expanded by 0.6 inches. The Boxer four-cylinder engine from the previous generation returns. On paper, performance is down by two horses and two pound-feet, but the practical difference is negligible, and fuel performance has been improved. The biggest fundamental change is that Subaru has opted for sheet metal that’s 10% stiffer. This results in not only a quieter ride but also improved handling and responsiveness.
